Hosting upgrade 2020

Over February and March 2020 we will be moving all customers to an upgraded hosting service - with increased usage limits and at no additional charge.

The new hosting will be at a London data centre with the Cloud Provider Digital Ocean. We have operated server instances with this provider for several years and will be utilising the technology of themselves and our new server management partner.  We’re also pleased to say this data centre uses renewable energy sources, combine this with our participation in a carbon offsetting programme - you can rest assured that the environment is also being considered.

We have been testing the service for the past few months and are already running a number of live sites in this new environment with a range of selected customers, to great results.

You will continue to receive all benefits of your current platform and more. Free automated security certificates are available, backups of your site will be taken twice daily and there is enhanced malware and virus protection running too.  For technically interested customers; the servers run CloudLinux with CageFS and Immunify360. Connections are at a minimum of 1Gbit/sec and shared cloud customers will be on servers with 32GB of RAM. There is the added benefit of Mailchannels too - scanning everything email coming off your site so you can be sure to avoid malicious email sending. Hardened PHP is also used to enable better backwards compatibility although we do recommend upgrading your sites to at least PHP7.2 and later is even better.

With improved email capabilities, all customers will have access to creating email accounts on their site hosting, although we continue to recommend utilising GSuite for the added space and much more extensive feature set - we can set these up and provide management for you.

The new sites will be on one of the largest customer control panels, CPanel, and you will receive a new hosting account login when the migration is complete. This is very easy to use, but we know many customers don’t tend to need to, and we will continue to be here should you need anything sorted.

We will also be taking this opportunity to increase the space and bandwidth limits on all shared cloud packages.

Our customers with Virtual Private Servers will also be benefitting from a similar upgrade to their own accounts and we will be in touch individually about these.

If you manage your own DNS records then we will be in touch with you separately to make the necessary arrangements, for the vast majority of customers we will handle everything necessary without any intervention required.

You should not have any down time whilst we do the migrations, but if you are scheduling specific updates, campaign pushes or simply want to be migrated at a specifically agreed time then please do just get in touch and let us know.

Thank-you for your continued support and custom as we grow, we hope you find the improved service beneficial.
